Judo was developed during a time when Japan was transitioning from the feudal era to the modern Meiji period. Jigoro Kano, a scholar and educator, sought to adapt traditional jujutsu techniques to a more modern context. He aimed to create a martial art that combined physical education with moral and intellectual development.
