Hayreddin Barbarossa Ottoman was one of the Ottoman Empire's most effective naval commanders in the 16th century. He built a loyal army by giving safe passage from Spain to North Africa for Muslim Mudéjars. He acquired the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire's assistance and established diplomatic connections with the French in order to battle the Italians and Spaniards who endangered his army.
